Trainers in Training
“I grew up in a dysfunctional family where expressing feelings of any kind (both negative and positive) was frowned upon. I became passionate about self-expression and self-awareness, and learned the importance of me setting my boundaries and of me speaking up. Most important, I learned the power of honesty, which I am now passionate about passing on to my son, to those around me and to those in my workshops. My life’s mission is to help create more love and connection between people through honest sharing and by expressing all feelings and without a need to change oneself or others.
“I’ve changed my life for the better by practicing Radical Honesty. I have more loving, honest and evolving relationships in my life (especially those with my son, my parents and my partner). I say what is important to me. I express my anger and my appreciation in the moment most of time. And though I still sometimes catch myself withholding, I try to be loving towards myself when I get it wrong. I don’t make others responsible for my own feelings (as I used to do). Best of all, I have learned to ask for what I want—and to my great joy, many times I even get it!”

“Tuulia Syvanen is a very focused and committed achiever. Once she gets her teeth into something she doesn’t let go until she has digested it! We have been trying to teach her to be more of a slob and a little less intellectually aggressive but without much luck. She has, however, a most redeeming quality. She has a heart. She has a big heart. And her son, her friends, her past lovers and current lover, and her family have been wonderful teachers to her as well as having learned some from her. They have all been teaching each other about coming more from the heart than from the mind. They experiment with giving up control and carefulness and withholding—in exchange for focusing on awareness, experience, presence, and allowing things to happen sometimes instead of making them happen. And as it all turns out, having a big heart and having a big mind go together just fine—as long as noticing is given precedence over thinking, and thinking is interrupted more often by noticing than noticing is interrupted by thinking.
Tuulia wants to help others learn to love without too much interference from their minds, and maybe even just a little bit of help from their minds, just as she has been doing in her personal life, which is the fundamental authority of a Radical Honesty Trainer. We look forward to her formal certification in February 2017. Taber and I are proud of her and happy with her and she continues to get better at interrupting minds and nourishing beings based on caring for how they care about each other by being radically honest.”
