Trainer SEXUAL CONDUCT Agreements

For Radical Honesty Trainers and Trainer Candidates

Written by the Radical Honesty Institute owners, staff, Trainers, and Trainer Candidates (Created 10/26/18, updated September 2023)

The Context

We believe that consensual sexual relationships between workshop leaders and participants are not inherently wrong. However, based on our personal experiences, we have come to develop a strong bias against them. Due to their differing roles, we believe an inherent imbalance of power exists between them that often causes problems and suffering. All of our Trainers and Trainer Candidates must therefore sign and adhere to the following terms:

Trainer and Trainer Candidate Agreements

  1. I acknowledge and agree that an inherent imbalance of power exists between workshop participants and me – and that me having sexual and/or romantic relationships with participants can cause problems and suffering.

  2. I agree to not engage in romantic or sexual activity with participants who attend meetups, closed meetups, on-going groups, and weekend, multi-day, or 8-Day workshops and anyone I am coaching privately or training as part of the Radical Honesty Institute Trainer program. This also applies if I am attending another Trainer’s workshop as a participant.*

  3. I agree to not bring my current or past sexual or romantic partners to RHI events that I am leading.

  4. I understand that expressing attraction to participants may trigger powerful emotions and/or traumatic experiences from the past. I agree that when sharing my attraction to participants, I will do so in an effort to get over my attraction, rather than to increase sexual tension (e.g. flirting). I agree to express my attraction either in the group or in the presence of another Trainer and not in private.

  5. I agree to contact RHI at support@radicalhonesty.com if I have not kept any of those agreements.

  6. I understand that my certification as a Trainer or Trainer Candidate may be immediately withdrawn by RHI if I engage in a sexual or romantic relationship in violation of my agreements above.

*Note: This Agreement DOES preclude Trainers from engaging in sexual or romantic activity with ALL Trainer Candidates and students on the Trainer path, in addition to participants of their workshops.

We want to support participants in processing their past, developing awareness of their own power to make choices, and asking clearly for what they want.

We don’t want the trainers’ romantic or sexual agenda to get in the way of a participant's development.

The Trainer Sexual Conduct Agreement is to create a context within which participants can express attraction without it leading to sexual or romantic activity.

Just like we can express anger without hitting each other, we can express attraction without making out with each other.

We want participants and trainers alike to feel alive, joyful, and sexy. We believe this agreement helps to that end. We expect trainers to be of service to participants, rather than using workshops and meetups to fulfill their own sexual and romantic needs.
